Pixie is busy promoting her debut album all over the world. Her most recent stop was in New Zealand, where she did an interview with a newspaper about her excitement for the upcoming release of her debut album “Turn it Up.” She also spoke about how this whole thing started with her going to an audition she was actually way too young for. But it worked out in the end! Read the article after the jump:

British singer Pixie Lott, real name Victoria, is in New Zealand promoting her debut album Turn It Up.

The album represents the young singer’s hard work over the last 18 months and Lott is excited about its release.

It has been a rollercoaster ride for 18-year-old Lott since she was signed with record company Mercury and her first single Mama Do was released.

It all started for Lott when she was 14 while attending Italy Conti stage school in Britain.

Lott told NZPA she spotted an ad in her local paper for auditions to be the next pop sensation.

While the audition was only for 16 to 25-year-olds, Lott entered anyway to “get some experience” and it took her to New York where she began writing and recording demos.

From that point, things have snowballed.

“I remember I was at school and I got a message through telling me that LA Reid was flying over to meet me the next day in a hotel room.

“I didn’t know who he was.”

Lott soon discovered that LA Reid was a Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer.

She skipped school the next day.

From that point on Lott has been writing music and putting it on her MySpace page.

As time went on, a bidding war broke out and Pixie was signed to Mercury Records in Britain.

At times it had been “frustrating” putting the album together and waiting for it to be ready, but she was “excited” for its release on September 14, she said.

Boys, dreams and heartache were what her songs were about and she liked writing when she was feeling happy, angry or sad.

Her dreams and goals in the industry?

To sell her CDs, play to large crowds, and meet some of her favourite singers — Mariah Carey and Alicia Keys.
